Stay Grounded - Perspective - Creative Photography #15

Update November 3rd...I so loved experimenting with this project and the resulting photo (above), I decided to try my luck and enter it into the Creative Photography contest this week.

If you are the least bit interested in photography, I highly recommend you bop on over to Shutter Sisters. The site is full of information and assignments that gets you out and stretches your skills.

Leaf Perspectives is one such assignment. Just put your camera on the ground and shoot the world from the perspective of a fallen leaf. The goal is not to look at what you are shooting...oh so hard not to. Simple yes? Not so much. I got a lot of really bad shots for a very adequate few.

So off the hubby and I went yesterday to the local bike/walking path that parallels the river...to discover what a leaf sees when it falls. Of course I was not happy with just shooting those leaves happily lying on the ground. I wanted the ones in the water...forced by the current up against the rocks. I wanted to tell their story.

I was lucky I did not drop myself or my camera in the water as I treacherously stepped from one stone to the next trying to get the best shot. I was also lucky my camera did not take an afternoon plunge as it balanced ever so precariously on the rocks at water level getting just the right perspective.

But that is what makes these assignments so much fun. Doing something you never would normally do. Thinking outside of the box. Expanding you photographic mind.

So tell me what you think...but be kind. It was a first try.

I think they are fabulous.

This assignment hits on so many levels. Looking from another viewpoint, not being in control, seeing beauty in places that either would be ignored, or at the best treated as ordinary. Taking a risk that you could never have done in the days of film!

Taking photos of "my" world has shown me how beautiful it is, has made me stop, look and listen in the middle of the hustle and bustle, plus brought me in to contact with special people I otherwise would not have had the good fortune to meet :-)Yourself included :-)

IMO photography should be part of the school curriculum now that we have digital cameras :-) Maybe then our youngsters would have a greater likelyhood of growing up to look after our wonderful world, and those in it, far better than we have.

Scrolling down . . . Sue :-)

When I was out shooting this challenge I was tempted by the ones in water too....puddles! Unfortunately, none of my water shots turned out but I'm glad some of yours did. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Those are both some very lovely shots. I like the perspective of being a leaf on the ground - very different!

Good luck in the Creative Photography Contest!

I love the photos, the perspective makes them absolutely fascinating, an amazing assignment to do, whoever thought that one up has a very creative mind. I especially love the first photo with the colours in the water.

I'm not sure I could take without looking - very brave!

I like those... and do shots like that often. Perspective is a wonderful thing to experiment with, and wrapping a photo around it can give fascinating results.

Nice work!

I also like the photos. The perspective is a unique one. That is an interesting assignment you had. A leaf's eye view, huh?
:-)

Good luck in the contest.

The water that contains the leaves shows an interesting mix of land and water - different in composition, but part of the same earth. Different yet closely intertwined...

These shots are absolutely amazing! I love to go trout fishing in the river. This is the best time of the year to do it, but with 3 kids now, it's hard to get away like we used to and do that. Good luck in the contest! My CP - Anatomy of a leaf

I See You!
